After a short break from the string quartet genre, Mozart returned to this genre with a set of six quartets dedicated to Franz Joseph Haydn. The second of these quartets is the String Quartet No. 15 in D minor (K. 421). Of the six Haydn quartets, this is the only quartet in a minor key.
